Summary
The Snowstorm is about a the effect a disaster has on people. Most people are in the comfort of their homes during the storm. They are protecting themselve, while very few are out completing jobs like clearing snow. The snow is merciless, but there is no stopping the people who are after a goal they have set for themselves.
Reflection
The snowstorm represents the inevitable obstacles of life. The snow is tumultous and stops everything around- all of the travelers and friends and house mates. The snow is savage, yet beautiful, which is a transcendentalist aspect. The farmer is self reliant and focused on himself. The supporting of the creation of identity is the acknowledgement of the individual, which is seen in the farmer clearing the snow and putting forth effort instead of being stopped by the storm. It is said that after his hours, when he reitres, his work will be apparent. In relation to the American dream of identity, the effort that comes from individualism supports the creation through experimentation and in 'The Snowstorm' the individualism is the drive.
